Description BigTrak - programmable retro car
Do you still know the BigTrak? Admittedly, it's been a while since this special toy car came onto the market, namely in 1979. Today, the BigTrak is an iconic retro toy that still has a loyal fan base on the Internet - and has recently become available again as a faithful replica.
What is so special about the BigTrak?
From today's perspective, the car's controls are unusual: the BigTrak can be controlled remotely, so to speak, but has no remote control. Instead, commands can be pre-programmed on a panel directly on the car, which are then executed one after the other in response to a start signal. In the age of USB radio controls, this is no longer something that will knock the socks off any spoiled child, but in reality it is more than just a bit of retro fun, because the BigTrak can be programmed in a very extensive and detailed way!
How does the programming work?
You can use the direction arrows and numbers to set which direction and how far the BigTrak should travel. A typical input sequence is e.g. 5 lengths forwards, turn 45°, 12 lengths backwards, 2 seconds pause, 4 lengths forwards, fire phaser 6 times (=blue light plus sound). A total of 16 commands can be programmed in this way. Theoretically, the BigTrak can travel up to 99 lengths forwards or backwards per command (one length corresponds to approx. 40 cm), fire 99 times and turn 360°. The commands can also be entered in very fine increments: Length of pause e.g. in 10ths of a second, rotation in degrees of a minute.
Further setting options: You can have an adjustable number of steps repeated without having to reprogram them. The BigTrak also has a button for checking each individual command and a demo button.
The BigTrak is very detailed and of high quality and stickers are included for embellishment. The futuristic tank look is supported by cool retro sounds that are played when the panel is operated and the phaser is fired.
With a length of more than 30 cm and a weight of just under 1.5 kg, the BigTrak lives up to its name! However, this caliber is only moved by the middle of the six wheels. They are fitted with a rubber ring so that the BigTrak can implement all commands precisely even on smooth surfaces. It also has a controller that should be adjusted depending on the surface (carpet or wooden floor).
The BigTrak comes with instructions in English, which provide excellent support for the first programming steps. If you still have any questions, our support team will be happy to help you at info@getdigital.de.
The loving replica of the iconic BigTrak from the 70s is still a very special toy that definitely has geek potential!
