Hako means box in Japanese. Admittedly: From the outside, the Hako doesn't look like much more. But the true values are on the inside, as we all know ;) Behind the lid is a kind of ingenious marble run that turns out to be a tricky puzzle.

The beginning is quite simple: two players drop their first marble into one of the holes on the lowest level. If the marble is directed to the left, the player gets stuck on the level or is directed back to a lower level and has to try again with another hole. As soon as the marble reappears on the right, the player can try one level higher, always alternating.

Now you might be thinking: That's it? The answer is no, because there's a bit more to it than that. :) Once you have understood this simple basic game, there are endless possibilities to make it more exciting. 10 different variants can be found in the enclosed booklet, e.g. Remember: This game variant is about remembering the original order of the marbles and making them come out in the same order. Or, even more challenging, Hako Master: Here you play for points, but you can also steal points from each other. So it's all about the best strategy. Other games focus on speed or concentration, for example.

Of course, you might think that simply remembering the "right" openings would be enough. Unfortunately, this tactic doesn't work because the tubes hidden behind the holes, which determine where the marble rolls, can be rearranged again and again. This means that each game is different from the last and challenges your wits.

Most game variants require two or more players. Five marbles are already included, two white, two black and one clear. However, you can also add more marbles of the right size. If you are not playing, you can clip the five marbles to the inside of the lid - so Hako also looks decorative ;) Your Hako box is randomly selected from 5 different colors: Black, white, blue, pink, or yellow.

Hako is recommended by the manufacturer for children aged 6 and over. Depending on the game variant, the whole family can join in the puzzle!
